Continue to Alpha Program Issues

Having one course a year in the first few years of the church should be sufficient. However, if the need is large enough, it is possible to have three per year. This is very difficult and can cause burn out, especially if the same facilitators are used at each course.

The course can be held at any time that is convenient to the church and/or congregation. It can be done as part of a larger program plan or as a stand alone class. It is possible to do the program on a Sunday morning but it is not advisable. Doing this program on a Sunday morning produces a number of obstacles that even seasoned Alpha coordinators have difficulties overcoming.

Insufficient attendance can be a hinderance to the program. It is best to start off with at least one small group of 6-7 people. If too many people drop out or simply do not return, that too could pose a problem and/or hurt the dynamics of the small group.

Assuming that you have a good core group with experienced and committed facilitators, the Alpha Program is an excellent stepping stone into the life of the church.
