Artistic Expression: Multisensory expression is a popular trend for the emergent church. Events and/or small group gatherings can come together to express themselves and their faith in art, drama, dance and music. Book Club: Suggest a book to be read individually and then come together for a discussion. Books do not necessarily have to be Christian literature. Secular books can also be used with discussion about the presence or lack of Christian ethics. The facilitator should have a strong scriptural background and be able to lead small group discussions. Dinners at various homes or small venues: To build community it is desirable to move from the large dining functions in the High Impact Activities to the smaller sized gatherings. Meals can be organized as potluck and be at the family level, couple level, or singles level. Discussion Groups: Popular topics are centered on present day social issues and daily life challenges that can be discussed with the addition of a biblical viewpoint. Holiday Dinners: Holidays can be very lonely for those without family to share with. This is a wonderful opportunity to include members of the congregation to come together. Monday Night Football: This might be considered a men's activity but I bet there are women that would enjoy this as well! Movie Club: Similar to the Book Club, bring a group together to view a movie. Movie going can be at the local theater or with a VHS or DVD and television. A facilitator needs to be present to lead the discussion. If viewing in a private mode the facilitator can even pause the movie and ask for some topical discussion. Back to Building Community Activities Last Modified 11/8/04 8:33 AM | Hide Tools |
