High Impact Activities

High Impact Activities can be planned in the very early church development. High Impact activities can be used as ways to introduce the neighboring community to the new church. Activities are intended to be of relatively low cost and effort but able to reach a large group of people. In the initial stages these activities can be orchestrated by the Organizing Pastor and the Core Group. High Impact activities can continue beyond the introductory stage and serve the purpose of fellowship and community building within the church. In this ongoing stage the responsibility of directing these activities could be given to a group of volunteers within the church.

The challenge is to make these gatherings appear different than a secular gathering and yet not make it uncomfortable to the unbelievers and/or unchurched who are attending. The evidence of Christ can be exhibited by the use of Christian music, blessing of food, opening and/or closing prayer and the godly conduct and compassion of the Core Group. There should also be handout materials regarding the church and contact numbers. Publicity handouts can also be used to announce the event.

Other possible conflicts may be a community event that has "secular hecklers" whom will need to be shown compassion with boundaries by the Core Group.

These activities should continue in the life of the church. Fellowship gatherings before or after worship and planned festivals and celebrations should always be a part of the joy of the church community. These activities should continue to be kept simple with the primary emphasis on fellowship.

High Impact Activities are primarily intended for all ages. The following are some examples:

Barbeques, cook-offs, picnics, games, holiday festivities, tailgate parties

Book swap with refreshments: Have a community gathering where fellow readers can bring their used books and exchange for other books. Have a wonderful assortment of Christian books available for swapping.

Christmas caroling

Coffee, tea, donuts and snacks before or after worship service

Sports activities: These events could be either attending or participating. Ideas include softball games, walking, running, biking, tennis and golf.

Wacky Fun Events: Think of something unique and fun. Possible ideas are a "Bring Your Pet' party. Everyone seems to be attached to their pets so have a pet party and give awards for the smallest pet, shortest leg pet, longest tail pet and so on. Include light refreshments. Other Wacky events suggestions are decorated bike or car parade, costume parties, baby picture match ups, etc. Have fun!
