Music Planning Overview

Music is an integral part of worship. Music helps "set the table" for the atmosphere of worship in gatherings of a congregation. There are, however, a vareity of styles, songs and ways to present the worship. Traditional hymns and choirs will attract a far more traditional person than a band with drums, guitars and synthesizers. Neither are wrong, they simply create a different atmosphere and therefore have a different draw. The person or persons in charge of worship and music must understand the vision of the church and who they are trying to reach to allow the music and worship to aid in the fulfillment of this vision. Music will be one of the important calling cards and draws to a church. The worship and music should reflect the culture of the target person.

The worship and music leader must take into consideration a variety of issues when planning the direction of the music. These issues include style and songs, size of group, talent and giftings available, and shared vision and values of the church.
