Stewardship Outline

Stewardship Overview
Peter writes in I Peter 4:10 - "As each has received a gift, employ it for one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace."  Everything we have - time, talents, health, property, relationships - is given to us by God.  A Christian steward serves God out of love and gratitude for these gifts by managing these gifts wisely and sharing them generously with others to promote God's Kingdom work.

While "raising the Church budget" is an important component of Stewardship, it is secondary to the spiritual aspect, which focuses on responding to God's overwhelming generosity to each of us.  The focus (and challenge) of the church's stewardship program is to develop the spiritual energy of its members by challenging them to trust God as they use their gifts in accordance with His will.  As mentioned above, these gifts include more than just financial resources, they also include abilities and talents and time.  An effective Stewardship program, especially for a new church, encourages contributions of time and talents, as well as money.  Because it may take new members and visitors a while to understand giving and stewardship, and develop a significant giving pattern, the church should embrace a "time and talent" philosophy and provide as many opportunities as possible to support the church in non-financial ways.

On the other hand, because financial support may be slow in coming, the Pastor and core group will have to begin cultivating Stewardship strategies quickly.  It is important for the Pastor and core group to tithe to provide a solid financial base and to also be bold in asking for money.
