"If denominations have any hope for the future, it may appear as individual congregations, and in turn middle judicatories, are energized for mission." Paul D. Borden, Hit the Bullseye

We hope this site will be useful to you as people who are called to start a new church.

We have divided the Toolbox into topics. The topics are listed down the left-hand side, in the Menu.

When you click on a topic, you will go to the main page for that topic. The main page often contains a link to the outline of the topic, an overview of the topic (includes purpose statement, why this topic is important to the new church, activities involved, expected results, scope, and timing), and links to the other sections dealing with the topic. The sections provide information on:

  • How to start - how does a new church start this area well?
  • First year / second year - what are some of the questions to be answered and activities that should be considered in the first and second time periods?
  • Best Practices - examples, stories, and references that show how other churches have done things
  • Environmental Factors - what outside factors could hurt or help and what assumptions have been made or should be made?
  • Issues - what key issues or stumbling blocks will the new church face and 'what if ...'?
  • Resources - what is needed in terms of people, time, money, equipment, etc. to make this happen?
  • Templates and samples - examples of organization structure, budgets, programs, forms, reports, spreadsheets, etc.
  • References - web links, paper references, and key people that might provide information

Some people may choose to read through all the sections for a topic. You will be able to go from section to section (page to page) within a topic, if that is your desire.

Others may want to jump to a specific section for a piece of specific information. You can do that by going to the main page for a topic (click on the Menu) and then scrolling down until you find the section you want to read.

Feel free to leave comments if you see something that needs improvement, if you have a question, or if you have other resources that might help other new churches. We are hoping this site will continue to grow as we learn more about successful church planting, with your help.
